Hey, anybody still there???

OMG, two years!!  Seriously, ridiculous.  Life, y'all - it's cray.

My blog got lost in the confusion of what it wanted to be - running, knitting, reading, kids, food, gardening, study, etc etc.  I'm still not sure where I want to go with it.  Being a typical over-sharer, it's likely to stay a ginormous conglomerative mess, but let's weed out some junk anyway, shall we?  Starting with an update:

Knitting
Slow, hardly happening.  Let's keep it to occasional updates (if any).

Running
Still happening when it can, but nothing terribly exciting.  Again, occasional updates for anything interesting (...hmm, define interesting...)

Reading
Yup, reading ALL THE THINGS.  More on this later.

Kids
Growing into monster-sized teenagers; a ravenous horde (of two) sweeping through the kitchen on a regular basis, devouring all things nutritious.  Ah, who am I kidding?  They eat copious amounts of junk.  X is about 15cm taller than me now.  Granted, its not hard since I'm only 5' (and a quarter inch, lol), but T is up to the bridge of my nose, and I'm fairly certain he'll be taller than me in a year or two.  I'll keep you posted.

Food
Yeah, I'm still eating.  I mean, who isn't? ;)  Still vegetarian.  Vegan is too hard to maintain, and doesn't work as well for my body.  So in the interests of good health, I include dairy in my diet in the form of yogurt and cheese, and very, very occasionally, I'll eat egg.  Usually in a muffin :)

Gardening
Eh, its winter...

Study
Although technically finished - ie: I graduated - I am still continuing with it to a certain degree, with what is known as 'Professional Development'.  In other words, I work as a school librarian (ahem, Library Assistant) and I love the snot out of my job.  Anything more I can learn about the profession, I will try to learn.  Sadly, I cannot afford (both in terms of time and money) to get my Masters in Library and Information Studies at this stage, but it is definitely something I am keen on pursuing in the not-too-distant future.  For now though, I'm working on literacy and library services for children and young people (aka teens).  So yeah, probably gonna have some updates on that.

So anyway, the big change since my last post so very long ago is of course my major shift from stay-at-home-mum/student to actual-real-life-working-adult.  Yaaaaaaay!!!  I work at a high school library, which is exciting, challenging, entertaining, hilarious and fun.  Sure, there are some annoying aspects - y'know, kids that don't push in their chairs (there are over 120 chairs in the library, and when you have to rearrange them several times a day, it gets tedious); kids that ignore the 'no food or drink in the library' rule, and sneak in food and/or drink, then leave their rubbish wherever they feel like it, for you to find and dispose of later (grrr); the obnoxious kids with serious attitude or diva tendencies; having to repeat yourself several times a day (no you cannot issue a Chromebook during interval); etc etc.  But that's just a part of the job.  Every job has it's not-so-fun aspects.  I'm rolling with it, and not bothering too much, because those minor irritations are far outweighed by the awesome parts - engaging with students and having a conversation about what they're reading and why they love it; recommending books, and having them come back and tell you it was awesome; seeing them smile or laugh when they notice funny displays or signs I've put up around the library; watching them learn new skills, find information, and use the library resources for their intended purpose - to help them learn.  Our library is busy, and loud, and sometimes you have to tell them to be quiet (it never works) or ask them to leave, but its a popular hangout, and a happy place, and I love working there.

So heads up, you're probably going to be hearing a lot about my work life now.  That is, of course, if you're still here...
